Description

Magnolia Sideboard

Think about where your serving bowls, table linens, and spare glasses actually live right now. If the answer is a cupboard in another room, a tall slim buffet fixes the daily annoyance. The Magnolia Sideboard is a wood sideboard cabinet, 70.87" wide, 15.75" deep, and 35.43" tall, made for dining rooms, halls, and kitchens that have wall space but very little floor to spare.

It is solid wood with plywood veneer. On a cabinet nearly six feet across, that core matters: plywood keeps the long front panels from cupping or dragging as the seasons change, and the solid wood handles the edges that take knocks from chair backs and vacuum cleaners. Close a door and you hear a solid thud, not a rattle, which is usually the fastest way to tell a real cabinet from a flat-pack one.

The proportions are what make it worth choosing. Fifteen and three-quarter inches of depth is slim by buffet standards, so it hugs the wall and leaves the walkway open behind pulled-out chairs, and it still takes stacked dinner plates, flatware trays, folded tablecloths, and a row of bottles. Oversized platters and bulky appliances will not fit, and that is the honest trade. Meanwhile 35.43" of height puts the top near kitchen counter level, so laying out a buffet or pouring drinks happens at a natural standing reach. The rest of the week it holds lamps, keys, and whatever the day drops on it.

Why It Works

  • 35.43" counter-height surface, comfortable for serving, pouring, and plating while standing.
  • Slim 15.75" depth keeps tight dining rooms and hallways easy to move through.
  • 70.87" long top, room for a lamp at each end and a full spread in the middle.
  • Solid wood over a plywood core, so the doors stay flush and the long panels stay flat.
  • Closed storage where you host, keeping china and linens a step away from the table.

Ideal Placements

  • A tight dining room. It fits the wall a normal buffet would crowd, and it puts the plates and linens in the room where you set the table.
  • A narrow hallway or entry. Shallow enough to walk past in a coat, tall enough that dropping mail and keys needs no bending.
  • A kitchen with no counter left. At this height it acts like extra counter for prep and serving, with the mess tucked behind doors.

Styling Pairings

Balance the straight lines with something curved: a round or oval dining table, a caned chair, an arched mirror. Upholstery in oatmeal, clay, or olive keeps everything warm; a stone or glass tabletop with matte black lighting cools it off if that suits your room better. Underfoot, a wool or jute flat-weave rug settles the whole group.

Keep the top styling low, because the surface already sits high. Two short ceramic lamps with linen shades, or one lamp and a trailing plant, plus a shallow tray for keys and a small stack of books. Hang one wide artwork or a long horizontal mirror about 6 to 8 inches above the top rather than a cluster of small frames. Pick one metal, brass or black iron, and repeat it in the lighting and hardware.

Vibe & Aesthetic

Warm modern with a calm, understated feel. Straight lines, real wood grain, no carving or applied trim. It works in transitional and contemporary dining rooms, and slots into mid-century or Scandinavian spaces as long as the surrounding pieces stay simple.
