Description
Merivelle Dining Chair
A fully upholstered dining chair with a tall back, for the dining room that feels a little too hard and echoey.
The back stands 32.28 inches high, which is noticeably taller than a standard dining chair. Sit down and it comes up behind your shoulders, so you get something to actually rest against instead of a ledge at your lower back. That height also gives the chair some presence at the table, the way a headboard anchors a bed.
Underneath, the footprint stays tidy: 19.29 inches deep by 20.47 inches wide. So you get the tall silhouette without the chair eating into your walkway, and it still pushes most of the way under a table when nobody's sitting in it. Full fabric upholstery means there's no wood arm or hard edge anywhere your body lands, and it absorbs sound, which is the part people don't expect. A dining room with four soft chairs is a quieter room to talk in than one with four wooden ones.
The trade-off with all-over fabric is maintenance. Vacuum it the way you would a sofa, treat spills while they're fresh, and it will hold up. If your household is hard on furniture, factor that in.
Why It Works
- 32.28" tall back supports your shoulders, not just your lower back, so long meals stay comfortable
- Compact 19.29" x 20.47" footprint keeps the walkway clear despite the taller profile
- Full fabric upholstery means no hard edges and a noticeably quieter, softer-sounding room
- Tall silhouette gives a plain dining table some vertical weight and structure
- No exposed wood or metal to scuff, chip, or clash with the rest of your furniture
Ideal Placements
A hard-surfaced dining room. Tile or wood floors, plaster walls, a stone or glass table. Soft chairs are the easiest fix for a room that sounds like a restaurant at full capacity.
An open-plan space where the table is on display. When the dining table sits in the middle of a living area with nothing behind it, the tall backs give that zone a defined edge and make it read as its own room.
A desk or vanity in the bedroom. One of these at a small writing desk is comfortable enough for real sitting and soft enough that it doesn't look like office furniture parked in a bedroom.
Styling Pairings
Because there's no wood tone to match, this chair is easy to place. Pair it with a wood table in oak or walnut, or go the other way with stone, glass, or a lacquered top, since the upholstery supplies all the warmth the pairing needs.
For the room: a wool or jute rug sized so the chair legs stay on it when pulled out, chalky neutral walls, and a pendant hung low enough to feel like it belongs to the table. Bring in one or two hard, shiny things to play against the fabric, like brass sconces, a ceramic bowl, or a metal-framed mirror.
The tall backs already fill a lot of visual space, so keep the tabletop uncluttered. A low centerpiece works better than anything that competes with the chairs for height.
Vibe & Aesthetic
Soft modern, leaning contemporary. Clean lines with no hard edges, a tall quiet silhouette, and a material palette that sits comfortably in a minimalist, transitional, or warm neutral interior. If your home is more textured than ornamented, this is the right register.
